Britain braced itself for the coldest night of winter so far, on Saturday, as parts of the country prepared for up to 15 cm of snow.

Footage from around the UK showed heavy snow already falling, with people battling with the extreme weather in areas such as Teeside and the West Midlands.

People in Cumbria were seen braving the weather with sledges.

And in Wales, parts of Cardiff Bay had frozen over.

On the roads, motorists were being warned of a dangerous cocktail of driving conditions, with the AA telling people to only go on essential trips.

While at London's Heathrow, around a third of Sunday's flights were cancelled.
